Ms. Kulwaree Buranasajjawaraporn received a Master of Science in Energy Technology from The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Technology from Chulalongkorn University. She is currently an Executive Director to the Bureau of Solar Energy Development at the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE). Ms. Kulwaree has more than 20 years of experience in energy policy and planning, energy conservation and efficiency and more than 10 years of experience in solar energy development and promotion. She was a key person in developing Thailand’s Twenty-Year Alternative Energy Development Plan (AEDP) 2015-2036. She is also involved in the Solar Farm for Government Agencies and Agricultural Cooperation project as well as the IEA Photovoltaic Power System Programme or IEA-PVPS which is a research and study program under the International Energy Agency (IEA) for stimulating the development of solar photovoltaic technology in a sustainable way.

Mr. Thomas Chrometzka is currently leading a team based at Thailand’s Ministry of Energy enhancing cooperation between German and Southeast-Asian companies in the framework of the “Renewables made in Germany” initiative. Previously, Thomas worked on European projects, solar policy analysis and global PV market development while at BSW-Solar. Earlier on in his career when Thomas was the Head of International Affairs he responsible for promoting the German Solar Industry abroad. Thomas has coordinated European funded projects such as PV LEGAL, aiming at removing bureaucratic barriers for PV system installations in Europe, or PV GRID, aiming at finding regulatory solutions for large-scale PV grid integration. Soon after he graduated in 2007, Thomas worked at the “European Renewable Energy Research Centres Agency”(EUREC) in Brussels in 2007 where he analysed European Renewable Energy support policies and administered the European Renewable Energy Master study programme.

Peter du Pont joined USAID’s Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA) In February 2016, as Climate Change Team Lead within the Region Environment Office. He has more than 30 years’ experience developing sustainable energy and climate programs in the U.S. and Asia.

Since 1989, Mr. du Pont has worked throughout the Asia region, in NGO, private-sector, and government-sector organizations to design and advise on the implementation of clean energy strategies and initiatives.  During 2006-2011 was Chief of Party of the USAID ECO-Asia Clean Development and Climate Program (ECO-Asia); and he has served as Co-Chair of the Asian Development Bank’s annual Asia Clean Energy Forum, the premier regional meeting on clean energy in Asia, since 2007.  Prior to joining USAID, he managed the development of the global consultancy Nexant’s clean energy business in the Asia region.

Mr. du Pont is a native of New Jersey and has a masters degree in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Delaware.

Ms Izumi Kaizuka has extensive experience in the Japanese PV industry as well as internationally. She is currently the manager of the Research Division in RTS Corporation, a Japanese PV consulting company with a 30 year track-record based in Tokyo. She has been working as an analyst of PV markets and the PV industry for various projects on PV for Japanese governmental organizations including METI and NEDO as well as for the PV industry overseas. Prior to working at RTS, she was working for Japan Association for International Chemical Information, a non-profit scientific information organization. She has been Japan’s representative of Task 1, IEA PVPS since 2003 and one of the authors of IEA PVPS Trends Report. She has been conducting various research projects as a PV market and industry analyst for the government, research institutes and PV companies in Japan and overseas. She also regularly writes articles on the PV market for professional magazines.

Ir. Dr. Kannan is a local energy consultant and has more than 30 years’ experience in energy research and consultancy. His expertise is in energy efficiency practices and technologies in buildings and industry. He has served as Chairman of the Technical Committee on Energy Efficiency involved in the update of Malaysian Standard MS 1525 – Code of Practice for Energy Efficiency and use of Renewable Energy for non-residential Buildings. He was also the Chairman of the Working Group which developed the Standards in 2000/2001.
Currently he is at the helm of the UNIDO-GEF project on ‘Industrial Energy Efficiency in the Malaysian Manufacturing sector’ as the National Project Manager attached to SME Corp Malaysia. In July 2006, he was a recipient of the ASEAN Energy Award for Excellence in Energy Management. In January 2007 he was awarded the Fellow Member of ASHRAE and since July 1st 2008, he was a Distinguished Lecturer of ASHRAE for two years.
Ir. Dr. Kannan was a Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He has a B.Eng (Mechanical) (Universiti Malaya); M.Sc (Technology) (University of Manchester) and Ph.D.(Engineering) (Universiti Malaya). Earlier in his career, Dr AJ has been working with several departments in TNB but mostly with the planning and transmission divisions where he was responsible for carrying out transmission system planning, PPA technical requirements and compliance and power system operation. Dr AJ was also posted to TNBES is 2003 to set-up the power quality unit and also to initiate the PQ monitoring system for TNB.

He was the Honorary Secretary for the AESIEAP (Association of the Energy Supply Industry of East Asia and Pacific) Power Quality subcommittee from 2001 to 2003. From 2001 to 2004, he was also a member of the SIRIM technical committee on power quality responsible for developing power quality standards for the Malaysian industries. Dr. AJ was the elected as the honorary Secretary of the Malaysian National Committee of CIGRE for 2003-2007 terms

Dr AJ was appointed as the Secretary of the Malaysian Grid Code Committee chaired by ST in 2011 and during his tenure has helped in the development and enforcement of the MGC until 2013 when he vacated the position due to his move to TNBD.

Dr AJ has built a strong relationship with the local universities and in 2011 he was appointed as an Adjunct Professor from University Malaysia Perlis. He also has been invited to be the Industrial Advisory Panel for Electrical Engineering for the National University of Malaysia and University of Petronas since 2012.

From 2012 to 2014, Dr. AJ was the Head of Sustainable Energy Development section in Customer Service Department. His responsibility includes FiT Management which entails the implementation of FiT program in TNB covering wide-scope of tasks from collection of SEDA fund, RE project assessment, development and commissioning, recovery money and contractual obligations thru REPPA. His scope of responsibility also covers Energy Efficiency management of which currently is still at its infancy stage of full-fledge implementation in TNB.

Dr. Yongping Zhai has been working on energy development in Asia and Africa for about 25 years. Currently he is in charge of overall energy policy and operational support and coordination with ADB Energy Divisions of East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central and West Asia as well as the Pacific Region. Previously as Director of the South Asia Energy Division (2010-2015) at ADB, he covered the energy sector operations in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. He has also led ADB’s support to renewable energy, energy efficiency and power trade in South Asia. Dr. Yongping Zhai as also served as an Assistant Professor at the Energy Technology Division of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand. He graduated from the Thermal Engineering Department of Tsinghua University, Beijing, China (1983) and received a Ph.D in Energy Economics from the University of Pierre-Mendès France in Grenoble, France (1989). He also holds the honorary titles of Distinguished Adjunct Faculty of the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand and Visiting Scholar of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies from Renmin University, Beijing, China.

Michelle Gyles-McDonnough is the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, UNDP Resident Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam, and UNFPA Representative for Malaysia, beginning July 2013.  Her previous positions with the United Nations include United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Programme Adviser in the UNDP Executive Office in New York, Chief of the Caribbean Subregional Policy and Technical Resource Facility, which Ms. Gyles-McDonnough established in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999, and Coordinator of the UNDP Liaison Office in Grenada to lead national post-disaster recovery, following hurricane damages of over 200% of GDP.

Prior to joining the United Nations, Ms. Gyles-McDonnough served as the first resident Legal Adviser to the Embassy of Jamaica in Washington, D.C., Alternate Representative of the Government of Jamaica to the Organisation of American States (OAS), and Cabinet Adviser to the Secretary General of the Organisation of American States (OAS) on matters related to international trade, tourism, and Caribbean political and economic issues.  She also practised as an attorney-at-law specializing in international trade with a private firm in Washington DC, USA.

Ms. Gyles-McDonnough holds a law degree from Columbia University School of Law, with honours in international and foreign law, a Masters in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and also a Diploma in Executive Education from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Titiporn Sangpetch received her BEng in Electrical Engineering at Prince of Songkhla University, THAILAND, in 1994; MEng in Engineering Management at the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA, in 1998; and PhD of Power Engineering in Energy Management, majoring in power systems planning at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, in 2006, respectively.

Since graduating in 1994, she has been working with EGAT as a power systems engineer in Transmission System Engineering Division. At the division, her responsibility includes EGAT specifications of power transformers, instrument transformers, surge arresters, disconnecting switches and power circuit breakers through the rated voltages of 115-500 kV.

In 1997, she had an opportunity to further her studies by undertaking a MEng Degree in Engineering Management at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she graduated in December 1998. She returned to Thailand for the next two year and worked as a power system engineer at the Transmission System Engineering Division. During this period, she was appointed to be a working member of the steering committee on Grid Code restructuring scheme of electricity supply industry.

In 2001, she started her Doctorial research under the scholarship of Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO), Ministry of Energy, the Royal Thai Government at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. She finished in 2006 and received a PhD of Power Engineering in Energy Management, majoring in power systems planning.

Currently she is working at the System Planning Division, EGAT, as the Head of Distribution System Connection Planning Section. Her research interests include power systems planning, management and control, and economics along with Artificial Intelligent (AI) techniques applicable for power engineering. In addition, her work is centered on sustainable development by means of renewable energy and environmental management, distributed generation for long-term grid connection planning, and power system reliability assessment.

He is currently the CEO of the UC3M PV-Lab of that University with a 18 year track-record based in photovoltaic. Dr. Salas’ research has included the design and development of support in off-grid and grid-connected for large-scale Photovoltaic (PV) plants including activities of independent advisory in PV projects (to help assure the quality of power plants to enhance their bankability and increase the cost-efficiency). In addition, he participates in the international standardization (International Electrotechnical Commission- IEC- and CENELEC) as co-Convenor (of the IEC/WG6 TC 82) or as expert in different Technical Committees (TC 8, 21, 22 and 82). Besides of participating in numerous projects since 1999, Dr. Salas has published more than 50 papers in international journals (including reviews), in conference and books in the field of Photovoltaic Energy. In addition, currently he is reviewer of several major conferences and journals and associate editor in IET Renewable Power Generation.

Prior to becoming a sustainability advocate, Jan created the world’s most accurate personal ecological footprint calculator, greencred.me, he was Deputy General Manager for Maersk Logistics South China, Head of Strategic Planning at Maersk China, and Director of Production at Alibaba during its start-up days. Jan holds an Executive MBA from London Business School, and a degree in marketing from Karel De Grote Hogeschool in Antwerp, Belgium.

Deger Saygin is Programme Officer for Renewable Energy Roadmaps at IRENA and works on IRENA’s Renewable Energy Roadmap (REmap 2030) project. His work deals with techno-economic energy analysis, energy technology and policy. Deger Saygin has a PhD in Energy and Resources from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, and graduated with a BSc in Environmental Engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Turkey.

Mr. Kumar is a Mechanical Engineer with specialization in thermal engineering from University of Roorkee (now  Indian  Institute of Technology, Roorkee) where he was awarded the University Gold Medal.

As Dean (Distance & Short Term Education), Mr. Kumar is responsible for development and outreach of University’s online courses, management & faculty development programmes, and other skill enhancement initiatives. Before he moved to TERI University, Mr. Kumar was  leading research activities in the fields of renewable energy and resource efficient process technology applications in TERI.

He  has been working on the development and diffusion of cleaner  and  renewable energy resources based technological solutions  in India for over 32 years. His experience ranges from policy and  programme formulation, through project implementation, to the design and development of renewable-energy technologies, as well as manufacturing of solar energy devices. His exposure combines different facets of renewable energy industry as well as research domain.

Mr. Kumar was actively involved in projects related to the development of Sri Lanka’s policy framework for renewable  resource based electricity  generation and the integrated  energy management master plan for Bhutan, in addition to  coordinating part of a multi-country GEF-supported study to  assess solar and wind resources in developing countries. He has also managed design, construction and commissioning of one of the largest solar ponds in Bhuj in western India from 1987 to 1996, as well as Asia’s first solar powered cold storage in the early  eighties. Besides leading the initiative to develop solar-biomass based cold storage-cum-power generation systems for  decentralized, rural applications, he is also working on a  programme for accelerated usage of biomass-based clean  energy solutions in the rural villages and micro, small, and medium enterprises.

He is actively involved in taking forward South – South cooperation in Africa and the Pacific Island countries. In his capacity as the Regional Programme Advisor, REEEP(Renewable Energy and Energy  Efficiency Partnership)  South Asia Secretariat; he oversees REEEP activities in the region. He has travelled widely as an invited expert.

Mr Kumar is also coordinating SE4All Capacity Building Hub; one of the global hubs of the UN supported Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4All).

Matthias Eichelbrönner (1957) graduated in 1985 at Technical University Munich in electrical engineering. Until his doctor’s degree in 1999 at Technical University Berlin (thesis: ”Renewable Energy to supply electricity – implementation, operation and economy, an empirical analysis”) he worked as a research associate for different projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency. From 1990 to 1997 he worked as an officer for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency in Berlin for Forum für Zukunftsenergien. The main tasks were basic groundwork for renewable energy policy and penetration in Germany. After that He was one of the key-founders of “German Biomass Association” (Bundesinitiative Bioenergie, today Bundesverband BioEnergie e.V.), were he also was part of the management of the association. In 2000 Matthias Eichelbrönner changed to MVV Energie AG, were he started as technical adviser to the CTO. During this time he developed a concept for a spin-off of a renewable energy company which was realized in 2001 with him as a Managing Director accounting a balance sheet of Euro 114 mil. From 2000 to 2006 he was member of the board of directors of EPV Energy Photovoltaics Ltd., an US based company for solar modules manufacturing. At this time he also was member of the supervisory board of Biomass Rhein-Main GmbH and managing director of MVV BioPower GmbH, near Berlin, Germany. In 2006 he founded E.Quadrat, together with Daniel Heiler. Afterwards, he was involved in serval projects in Germany and Europe e.g. wind power in Poland and Spain and hydropower in Germany. In parallel and up to 2010 he held an interim management position as technical director of EPC inc., USA where he developed a photovoltaic project pipeline of 500 MW and photovoltaic module manufacturing plant. In 2010 different assignments from GIZ Germany followed to support local entities in India, Indonesia and Vietnam in matters of photovoltaic and bioenergy in respect to project development, quality control and project finance together with local banks. In 2011 a first private Indian assignment started to analyse the market for photovoltaic module manufacturing in India, more assignments from private companies from Germany followed. In Malaysian he started in 2014 in collaborating with a RE project developer. In 2011 he became Visiting Professor at University of Applied Sciences, Mannheim. He teaches lectures for renewable energy systems for industrial engineers.

He holds a Masters Degree in Computer Science from MIT (Boston) and was Professor for Systems Design / Methodologies at Cologne University, Germany (1992 – 1998).

Juergen has spent his career in Consulting having both worked at a Board level and as an independent subject matter expert. Juergen has worked extensively throughout the Telecommunications and Utilities industry and is considered to be one of the industry’s leading experts in Powerline Communication (BPL/PLC). He was one of the pioneers of introducing BPL / PLC for AMR / AMI systems.

Juergen has been engaged with a diverse set of clients in countries all over the world as they have explored the use of various telecommunication technologies for all kinds of Utility application mainly for grid automation and more recently the transition to smart grid infrastructures.  He has delivered several projects of this nature across SCADA systems, Distribution Automation, Demand Site Management Substation Control and Automation as clients have grappled with their evolution to Smart Grid concepts and architectures.

In the last few years, Juergen has been an industry subject matter expert for Smart Grid and AMI and participated heavily in industry working groups across APAC, Europe and Latin America. He has been the Chairman of the national HAN working group in Australia and had an active role in various national working groups for Smart Metering and Smart Grid. Juergen is also the main author of the Smart Grid Technology Action Plan prepared for the Major Economic Forum (MEF) of the G20. Since 2010 he is also a member of CEN/CENELEC and ESMIG supporting the standardization workgroups for Smart Metering and Smart Grid technologies.

Antonio has advised Governments, major Oil & Gas and Utilities companies about Energy Security, Energy Management, Energy Planning, Energy Efficiency and Emission Reductions. Left Europe in 2003 to live in Japan first and China after, before relocating to Singapore where he has been living since November 2005. He is graduated from L’Aquila University in Italy CMEng (1st class) Chemical Engineering and INSEAD BUSINESS SCHOOL Singapore, Supply Chain Management programme. He’s was from 1996 to 2002 the Swiss representative for the International Energy Agency (IEA) PVPS program and was for nine years the lead International Consultant for a National PV Program in Malaysia (MBIPV) funded by United Nations Development Program and the Government of Malaysia.

Since 2012, Daniel is responsible for the project business for Canadian Solar Inc in SEA, Pakistan and Australia.
